swestrupWell, I have done some rewiring and a lot of cursing (the physical universe never obeys my plans for it), and I now have my modem in the basement, connected to a new powerbar which is connected to a new extension cord, and connected to my upstairs firewall by 75 feet (~25m) of Cat 5 Cable.
I finished the hookup and 40 minutes later I still have a connection. If its still up tomorrow morning, I'll declare it a success, and start worrying about threading the cable through the walls.
