Here's an article (weak on details) about a new method of building a 'cloaking device' which would emit light that cancelled out the light bouncing off of a nearby object, thus rendering it invisible. At this stage the device is only theoretical and would be unable to cloak anything more complex than dust.

Well, nanobots are still a ways away, so cloaking for mote-sized particles probably has a few years of useful application...
