It's pretty obvious inactive accounts are skewing the count. I wonder if they should be removed from the calculation and, if so, what the criteria should be. (How do you tell an inactive account from one which somebody uses once a year to post a birthday greeting somewhere?)

Maybe it should publish two parallel rankings, one among all registered LJ's and one among only those with a certain threshold of friends.
