Nov. 21st, 2003 05:12 pmSo, some friends and I have been speculating about what effect the Chinese' successful orbital shot and subsequent announcement of plans for a moon base would have on the US. While the US thought it was the only space-capable nation, it was willing to ignore its strategic potential. Now that someone ELSE has access, even if they've announced friendly intentions, you can only imagine what the US military-industrial complex has been whispering in Bush's ear: "Mr President, we cannot allow a moon-base gap!"
So, the following headline causes me both some smug satisfaction and some small amount of trepidation that its the start of a spacial arms-race:
