Date: 2006-01-24 04:52 pm (UTC)Also, his stance on English lit. made my teeth itch. What do you mean, no one wants to work on identity and gender in Conrad? Seriously, people don't study literature for the great employment possibilities, and people don't stop analysing literature just because they don't have a job in a university (I know that I still read books with a critical view, even though I graduated five years ago). Math will happen without a math department, sure, but so will English.
