I had trouble sleeping last night and was awoken at the ungodly hour of 1:00 pm today by a call from Bell. Since I REALLY wanted them to check things out, I dragged myself out of bed to talk to the man. First off, he didn't know that I was managing a SYN connection on my modem, but nothing else. This was communicated to my ISP on multiple occasions, but since Bell's high speed people refuse to talk to the public but only to ISP's, I don't know who dropped the ball. Anyway, the Bell guy had only been testing for things that cause lack of SYN. While I was on the phone he ran a battery of tests and everything came out normal from his end.

So, he told me he would send a technician to check things out here tomorrow, but if its my modem, there would be a $70 service charge. Since my only alternative is to buy another $100 modem on the off chance there is some obscure problem in mine, I agreed.

Since then I've dug up the manual for my modem and managed to contact its configuration page. It says everything looks fine but it can't connect. Even the internal diagnostics say the same.

So, my best guess is that the guy will come tomorrow, find nothing wrong with my modem (and hence won't charge me), and will blame my ISP. Things will then once more go around the circle. *sigh*
