So, I was awakened at the ungodly hour of 1:30 pm today by
taxlady due to a server failure. Not, for a change our server (still up after 24 hours now), but one that hosts her spam filtering service. The service's domain registrar has screwed up their account. As a result, they were now losing emails as the bad registry data propagated through the net. She needed me to find the name and password of the backup e-mail account I'd set up for her a few weeks ago, so she would have somewhere to redirect her mail.
Of course, it only occurred to her (or me -- but I wasn't really awake) afterwards that she already had an account she could have used for the purpose. I suppose she could have signed up with yahoo, hotmail, or some other similar place for the duration of the problem, but since she really worries about the confidentiality of her clients' financial data, she really didn't want to trust some place like yahoo with the mail.
Anyway, its all settled now, but it means I woke up earlier than planned, and will probably go to bed earlier than planned. All in all, thats probably for the best.
