Movie Stuff.

Finally got around to watching "Johhny Mnemonic". I downloaded it in a fit of boredom a while ago, and its been just sitting there ever since.

So, my observations are:

1) Its just as bad a movie as everyone said. The sad part is that the story it was based on was, IMHO, better than Neuromancer. Why does it seem that everything Gibson has written was worse than what came before?
2) I now understand all those jokes about the acting/thinking ability of Keanu Reeves. Yeesh!

Ad 1: agreed!
Ad 2: come now! His "I want a ten thousand dollar whore" scene just glitters with brillant acting and deep understanding of the world of tomorrow's high society lifestyle. Ehhh... or maybe it doesn't ;-)

Actually, I almost posted that his "I want a $10,000 whore" scene was the one place where he was convincing, but what he was portraying was loud and stupid...

But I always thought the role was perfect for Reeves. The guy is *supposed* to seem stiff and inhuman because he's had his early memories removed, and Reeves achieves the effect effortlessly.

The saddest thing is that as far as movies more or less in the cyberpunk genre, it was one of the few movie that was at least decent. You have to go back to Blade Runner otherwise. The rest of cyberpunk movies that I have seen is terrible low-budget crap.
