Here's an unpaid product plug: Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo.
About 6 months ago, I came down with a bad case of dandruff for the first time in my life. I tried a wide variety of treatments and anti-dandruff products, and the best that any of them managed was to make things worse.
Then I discovered that a new chemical anti-fungal agent called Ketoconazole had been developed and was far more effective against scalp fungus than existing agents. As far as I know, it is only available in the Nizoral brand of dandruff shampoos.
I bought myself a bottle of the stuff and started using it. You only use it twice a week, but I noticed an effect after the very first use. By the second dose, all visible flaking was gone. The scalp irritation and itch has been steadily decreasing and now, after 4 weeks, the dandruff is pretty much gone. I'll probably use the stuff for another 4-6 weeks, and then see what happens if I stop.
So, I highly recommend the stuff but: buy the small bottle! I bought a larger bottle of this stuff, and it looks like I won't even be 1/3 of the way through it by the time I'm cured.
