Its galling to be wrong in a firmly held belief. I'm beginning to think that I may have been dogmatically wrong about something -- something I've held true for many years now. Its worse when friends have been trying to tell you that, and you haven't listened.

But as you undoubtedly know there really only is one thing to do: change your belief and get on with everything.

Though it might be argued that ideas are better than beliefs ;-)

sometimes, you have to find things out for yourself... taken other people's experiences into account... really only goes so far.

It's been my experience that people will never listen to you anyway. They always do have to find out for themselves.

Out of curiosity... what triggered your realization that you may have been "wrong"? Observing the behavior of others? A specific event? Did it come on gradually... or just BLAMMO it hits you?

At least you're questioning the previously-held belief. Many people never even get to that stage...

So what was the belief?
Look on the bright side: not changing your
views even slightly during a given time period
is a sure sign of not learning in that area during
that time period,

Don't feel too bad: I remember I was wrong about something,
myself...
