All my Yesterday.
Jun. 5th, 2005 04:03 pmYesterday was both a very long and a short day for me. Some parts seemed very long because I had only had 2 hours sleep. Other bits seemed quite short as whenever I was busy the time flew by.
The night before I had spent quite a few hours tossing and turning to no effect before finally drifting off for a very fitful two hours. As it was, I woke up 3 times in those two hours.
So, when 7:30 rolled around, I was not exactly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but I managed to crawl out of bed by 8:00 and was ready to leave for a minor shopping expedition at Reno Depot. After that, we headed off for
mousme's weekly brunch.
Now, I don't know how often I'll be able to make it to the brunches, both because I have to get up at 8:00 am (at the latest) on a Saturday, and also because Eggspectations isn't the cheapest place to eat considering our current budget, but they are a lot of fun.
taxlady and I arrived first, followed shortly by
miseri and then
mousme.
luvenditti arrived a few minutes after that.
We ate and chatted about everything under the sun. As we were settling up the bills, another LJ'er arrived, but I didn't catch their LJ name, and their real name is now forgotten -- two hours sleep will do that to my memory. He seemed a nice enough fellow though, so he probably has an LJ name like
zortgon_the_befouler.
By 12:00 most folks had left, and it was only me,
miseri and
zortgon left. We chatted for another half hour -- mostly about school and the horrors of exams -- and then we went our separate ways. I was pleased to discover that
zortgon, who had only had coffee, had his bill waived. Whether that was because he seemed such a nice guy, or because the waiter was afraid of his evil minions, I don't know.
I then had about 2.5 hours to kill before the beer fest. First I went to a pharmacy, and bought me some shampoo. Then I headed downtown to the Chapters bookshop just up the street from Windsor station where the beer fest was being held.
On a whim, I checked to see if Chapters had any books about writing erotica. They had, but only one: Writing Erotica by Edo Van Belkom. I spent 30 minutes flipping through it, which was long enough to determine that it wasn't worth buying. Just about any book on being a professional writer would have done a better job of covering what this book did.
After that I still had 30 minutes to kill, so I grabbed a coffee at the coffeeshop and read the last of the novel I had brought with me (The title and author escape me at the moment, but I'll probably write a mini-review later.)
After that, it was off to the beer fest. Boy, was it crowded! I wandered around a bit, but soon realized I would not be able to find
hub_ or
thebabynancy in the crush. I phoned them to find out where they were, and their location turned out to be less than 8 feet from me! When I pushed through the crowd, I discovered that
cutiecassa was also with them. Not too too long after that,
blacksquiggles met us. From then on, its kinda a blur.
We wandered around inside and out, trying different beers and eating sausages on sticks. The group split up and rejoined several times and I lost track of who all I saw. Eventually I ended up sitting on a rock outside, resting my weary legs while other folks went off on beer runs for us. By then we had formed into an amalgam of 2 or three groups that each had a person or two in common. I remember that by then we had been joined by
xipetotec,
lucklesskanuck, and
pphaneuf. At one point a spike-haired individual identified as
_absinth_ dropped in to say Hi, as did
emjayne and a friend later.
We pretty much sat and chatted, ate and drank until nearly 9:00 pm, at which point I decided to head home along with
thebabynancy and
hub_. Of course, they only had to go as far at St. Henri metro and they were home, whereas I caught the 211 at Lionel Groulx and was picked up in Pointe Claire by
taxlady.
Soon I was home again, and went to bed not long after, although it took my body a while to realize that it really was allowed to sleep now.
