I used to hate the rain. I'm not sure why. I think it had something to do with the sensation of raindrops falling on my hair. It got even worse as the hair thinned and then went away. About 5 years ago, that all changed. We had a winter that just seemed to go on and on and on, and I got very tired of trudging through new snowdrifts each moring and shielding my eyes from the glare off of the snow. When the spring rains finally came, it was a blessed relief.

Now, on a day like today, I may not much want to go walking in the rain, but I can appreciate the lack of glare and the clean sleepy quality that the air has. I'm going to be heading downtown in a few hours to meet some friends, and the fact that its raining doesn't put any sort of damper on the idea, as it once would have.

I have always loved the rain...as a child in my bathingsuit (ok ok, when it was a little warmer) I would go play in the rain and in the back of my place between two little hills was a HUGE puddle that we could splash in. I wonder if it's still there now? (I havn't been back to that part of the island in a while)

... and then when I was working outside (which I love way more than inside let me tell you), I remember either working at a summer camp or on a golf course, just loving the rain, wiping away all the bad I had in me, soothing me and such things... happy and all smiles in the rain, and everyone thought I was a little weird (they still do, but for different reasons), and then when my friend Rachel was working with me, she felt the same, and we were just so happy that it was raining and at the fun to be had, kindered spirits and we would get back at the end of the day all smiles and muddy (cause golf carts through puddles is SO MUCH FUN), and our two bosses would just shake their heads... sol goods. Happy memories for a happy morning. *sighs*

Maybe part of the dislike comes from living for 4 years or so (only 4 years? It seemed like a lifetime then...) in a place called Kitimat where it rained 4 out of every 5 days. It was rare enough to have a bright and sunny day that it was as likely as not that when it happened, one of the teachers would declare that for class that day we were playing softball outside or something.
