One less off the todo list?
Jul. 6th, 2004 06:09 pmOn the master todo list of projects I've never had the time or money to pursue was "Technical Discussion Fora System" which was an attempt to formalize a design of the kind of structure that the working usenet groups had, back before there was spam on netnews. The idea was to have a system which let anyone comment on anything, and anyone else rate articles as they wished. By being rated UP by other folks, people would gain status, and their posts would get displayed in ever more prominent places. As well, the opinion of others who were well recieved would weigh stronger than the opinions of folks no one listened to. Now, I don't think that solution is quite right, and it would probably need tweaking and some checks and balances, but it was the general idea. Kuro5hin does something vaguely similar, as does Slashdot, but neither of them is optimized for intelligent discussion.
Now, I've just read about eucalyptt and I can't tell if its exactly what's on my design list, but it sounds close, at least at first reading.
