Opening Paragraphs #1
Mar. 28th, 2010 02:21 amBy the early 31st Century, materials technology had reached the pinnacle of what physics would allow. Military battle armor of that time was not only intelligent, but actively merged itself with the body and nervous system of the pilot so that it was impossible to tell where flesh ended and nanoengineered ceramic, metal, and polymer composites began. In addition, techniques had been discovered that allowed carefully controlled particle currents to augment the binding energy of the military materials, vastly improving their characteristics. It wasn't actually a force field, but it was the closest thing that science had been able to produce.
However well designed that era's armor was, the creators of destructive engines were equally adept, and the offensive power wielded by weapon emplacements of that time would have been starkly inconceivable to people of any earlier age. So, it should come as no surprise that there were many places on the field of battle that were avoided by even the cream of armored infantry, never mind a man in a monkey suit, delivering pies by bicycle. This is his story.
