I took my computer to microbyes today, but the man there said that they charge $75 an hour to diagnose old athlon-based systems, and that the most likely explanation for failing to post is that my motherboard has a fried component on it somewhere.
In addition, being as old a system as it is, no one makes replacement motherboards that I can use. The very least that I wil need to buy is a new motherboard, new RAM and a new CPU.
So, it looks like I'm going to start checking second-hand shops to see what I can get in the way of a cheap replacement system. My old system was a 1Gig Athlon, so I essentially need a 1.5GHz Intel chip of some variety to just be on a par with where I was.
