Am I awake? Have I booted? Or is this just another dream?

Only got about 6 hours sleep last night, and now I'm racing to get ready in time to go and catch a 7:30 am bus into the city so I can go to the Montreal Technology Entrepreneurs Breakfast. I missed the last one due to repercussions of the basement flooding we had, so I'm determined to make it to this one, even if today there are more repercussions (we're getting all our stuff back from storage).

So, now I gotta rush!

Whew!

The warehouse guys have been here and gone. We now have (AFAICT) all our stuff back now. They even emptied the spare bedroom of all the stuff we had piled in it, so as soon as we reassemble its contents, we'll have a spare bed again. Well, technically, we've had a spare bed all this time as we have a sofa-bed in the living room, but as [livejournal.com profile] sps has discovered, that's far from ideal.

The basement, of course, is a complete mess but we aren't going to worry too much about that until Monday. Early next week we'll work out a battle plan for moving [livejournal.com profile] taxlady's office back into the basement, and figuring out how to lay out the contents of the laundry room.

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] taxlady, she's rather frazzled right now. June 15th is one of the two big tax deadlines of the year, so she's working full out to get stuff to people by Friday. Having everything delivered today wasn't really the best of plans, but the warehouse people weren't willing to hold it for us any longer for 'free'. (ie, the insurance wasn't going to cover any more storage). In fact, she hasn't slept yet since yesterday. She has one more client file to put together (which she is doing) and then she'll collapse until this evening, I'm sure.

Me, I'm pretty much toast too, as I was up extra early, and have been running on little sleep for the last three or four days. I think I'll be hitting the sack early tonight, for sure.

You know, June is almost half over, but I just realized that, contrary to what I said earlier, there are actually two different movie scripts that I might like to write. I've had these plots in my head for years. The first was a response to the first Star Trek movie, as I figured I could easily write something better than V'ger. The second is something [livejournal.com profile] sps and I refer to as the 'Kung-Fu SF Movie'.

Maybe next year.

Blame [livejournal.com profile] jdhobbes for this: I did a search on Google for "Stirling like to" and here are the top ten hits (in reverse order). Note that in those cases where the sentence did not begin with my name, it was truncated so it did:

  1. Stirling likes to say, is that Garth Snow and the Islanders haven't given up a goal in regulation in either of their last two games.
  2. Stirling likes to say it goes like a 'BANANA'
  3. Stirling likes to make.
  4. Stirling likes to shoot.
  5. Stirling likes to dub itself "the key to the kingdom" because of its strategic position as a gateway between the north and the south.
  6. Stirling likes to say, quantity has a quality all its own.
  7. Stirling likes to be left alone when bathing so he can mumble and dance in the water.
  8. Stirling likes to write about many of the same things in his work.
  9. Stirling likes to jump around between some of his characters a tad too much for my liking.
  10. Stirling likes to play, and his game is highly sophisticated.

And so now you know what happens when I get bored!

The Economist has a good article on the economics of recycling.
