Does this count as a useful writing resource? Someone (I forget who, and can't find the post) posted a link a few days ago to a site that describes actual chemical compounds with bizarre names. Among these are arsole, cummingtonite, as well as Curious Chloride and Moronic Acid. Those latter links are all from Wikipedia which (of course) maintains its own list of strange chemical names.

Did you know that the strongest known acid is Fluoroantimonic Acid and its 2x10^19 times stronger than 100% Sulphuric Acid. pH only applies to aqueous solutions and this particular superacid explodes violently on contact with water, so it doesn't have a pH. Its pKa value (the non-aqueous equivalent, based on the same scale as pH) is -25!
