Argh!

I do not seem to be capable of sleeping right now. Getting very tired and cranky, yes. Sleeping, no.

Just then, as the group was starting to seriously consider their options in attempting to break out of the seemingly well-fortified 'waiting-room' they had been escorted to, the Grand Inquisitor entered, flanked by two large men in guard uniforms.

"There you are," exclaimed Darellia, leaping to her feet. "What have you done with Jurgens? Your thugs dragged him away ages ago!"

"Indeed," Pompare chimed in, "this is no way to treat scholastic envoys of the High Regent. He will not be pleased!"

"Come now, " sneered the Grand Inquisitor, "the requirements for the contest were quite explicitly spelled out. There would be a period of testing to prove your scholastic mettle before being allowed to compete."

"Testing? But Jurgens isn't one of our team members, he's our porter," Tacitus uncharacteristically burst out. "One of us was supposed to be tested!"

"All who enter the portal of the Serelean Test, as you four did, are considered members of the team. As Grand Inquisitor, I have sole discretion on which member will be tested. I chose Jurgens, as he was clearly your weakest ... scholar. As the rules of the testing decree, once selected, the Invigilant is immediately placed in isolation and given the Question. What has been done was all in accord with the stated rules."

Pompare stared incredulously at the Grand Inquisitor. "You mean to say you've given the Question to that crotchety old peasant, to test our team's worthiness? The very idea! I must protest!"

The Grand Inquisitor stared back unperturbed. "It is far too late to protest. He has already been given the Question, and the Period within it must be Answered has lapsed. The Judges have rendered their final decision, and I'm here to deliver it."

"Well, do your duty then," Darellia said, defeat in her voice.

The Grand Inquisitor removed an ornate scroll from its concealment in one of his voluminous sleeves, broke open its seal, and began to read. "The Invigilant known as Jurgens has been herein put to Question according to the Rules of the Serelean Test, as observed by the Judges Triumvant. The Question put to the Invigilant was to describe in detail the relationship between man and the gods -- "

The Grand Inquisitor levelled a stern glare in answer to Pompare's groan of dismay.

"To continue: Immediately upon being put to the Question, and for the entire Period assigned for the giving of an Answer, the one known as Jurgens produced an unrepeating and unrelenting assortment of curses, invective, and attacks on everyone and everything under creation."

"Yeah, that's Jurgens" muttered Darellia.

"As a result we Judges had no option," the Grand Inquisitor continued, "to assess the Answer to be Most Adequate to the Question. No other Invigilant has scored as high so far, so your team is currently in first place to choose your challenges."

The Grand Inquisitor snapped the scroll shut and stared at the assembled contestants with the look of someone who has just tasted something foul.  "Do not let this go to your heads. There are many more obstacles to overcome, and the chance of your team winning through to the end is slight indeed. Jurgens will be returned to you shortly, as soon as he's had the ritual bath and meal in reward for a successful Answer."

In the stunned silence that followed his proclamation, the Grand Inquisitor turned smartly and left, followed closely by his guards.

LJ just added a feature for adding your Latitude and Longitude into a location field when you enter a journal entry. I'm doing that now to see what it does with the info.
