I was watching "Debbie Travis' Facelift" with
taxlady earlier. Or rather, she was watching it, and I was too busy trying to finish my NaNoWriMo novel to watch. Anyway, she pointed out that we know one of the people on the show. Derek, the cabinet maker used to own and run a wonderful German restaurant called Checkpoint Charlie on Park Ave. We were frequent customers because the food was so good, and Derek was a damn good cook. (As was Bala, the other chef I remember). They made a wonderful schitzel sandwich that I still get cravings for. I knew at the time that Derek was multi-talented, as he also ran a nearby antiques store back then, but I hadn't expected him to end up on TV.
I guess sometime in the last 10 or so years him and his wife moved to Toronto. It looks like business is doing okay for him.
