Its looking more and more certain that I'll be heading out to spend 2 weeks in Copenhagen soon, so I've been reading up on it on wikitravel, a useful resource for this sort of thing. I'm finding it a little stressful to be planning a trip in the near future when I don't even know my departure date, or how I'll be travelling (currently, its looking like a short hop by air to Boston, from there to Iceland, and then on to Copenhagen -- but that will change if a cheaper route is found in the next week or so).
All we've done so far is manage to perhaps find someone to feed the cats while we're gone, but we're still waiting on confirmation of that.
It also seems extremely likely that
skjalm will have left on a trip before I can possibly arrive, although
taxlady (who'll go 7-10 days before me) might just be able to see him before he takes off. I don't know anyone else in Denmark, so I'll probably spend my spare time doing the tourist things, rather than the visiting friends things.

I just got a call from my doctor. Since I had to go see her to have her endorse my passport application, I had her check my blood. Folks have been saying how bad Atkins is for the cholesterol, and while *I* hadn't been able to find any medical literature that pointed that out, I thought it better to be safe than sorry.
I just got back my results. My last blood work (before I was on Atkins) said I had perfectly normal cholesterol. Since then, it has gone up marginally but is still in the 'healthy' range. The proportions have changed a bit though. The Bad Cholesterol has dropped while the good has climbed. The doctor says that first is probably due to me losing a lot of weight, while the second is probably due to me losing my job (making me more sedentary).
There's no evidence that the Atkins has had much of an effect on my cholesterol levels, good or bad, and all my other readings -- blood sugar, liver, kidney and thyroid function -- all are perfectly normal. I hope that helps to allay any fears folks have had about what my diet is doing to my health.
