I first heard about the secret women's language of chinese from [livejournal.com profile] taxlady some time ago, but never had any references to it. Now, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] undinesprite I know it was called nu shu.

On the topic of ancient science fiction shows, I'm currently downloading The Questor Tapes a Gene Roddenberry TV pilot from the seventies. Questor was a humanoid robot of mysterious origins who had had much of his memory and emotions erased. He spends the duration of the show trying to find out who he is, and what he was created for. He's a very clear precursor of Data. I loved the show when I first saw it, and was saddened that the show wasn't picked up to be a series.

I'm also downloading The Lathe of Heaven, which I own a legit VHS tape of. It is, simply put, the finest bit of SF I've ever seen on TV. It should also not be confused with the 2002 remake of the same name, which stank to high heaven.

I've also been drinking rum, since I should have been asleep hours ago, and nothing has happened. I notice myself to be somewhat more inebriated now than before, but no sleepier. :-/

I've been seriously contemplating the use of web bugs in the essays that I've been posting, so that I would have a mechanism for determining if they are getting read or not. On the other hand, many folks I know think that these things are evil incarnate. So, should I use them or not? They seem fairly harmless in this context, but I still wonder about it. What do folks think?

Austrailia was once home to the Demon Duck of Doom, a 250 Kg carnivorous duck. That is scarey enough, but what's worse is that it was only half the size of the even more ancient Stirton's Thunder Bird, to which it is related.

I've just posted an essay on Rewards and Punishment to my [livejournal.com profile] willcodeforfood blog.
