Eh, I'm awake. Dunno why. I went to bed at midnight for a change (rather than at 6:00 am), and so now I find myself having woken up at 6:00 am. That's really not enough sleep but my body doesn't seem willing to fall back asleep. Meh.

Anyway, last night my dreams were about travel to some hotel in a South American country and then segued into [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ telling me that you did NOT want to know the details of how Microsoft implemented the room-service protocols in their brand of hotels...

I just had the coolest idea EVAH! Its called How to Leverage Mystery.  You see, I was thinking about Transmeta and their chips, and how they were really mysterious about what they were doing except to say that what they were gonna produce was revolutionary. Lots of folks speculated on what that meant and some really good suggestions came down the pipe as to what they might be doing. Then it was all revealed, and it was just the same old thing.

Then the same thing happened with the segway.

Now, folks are talking about the new Cell processor for the PS3. Everyone says it will be great, but its still secret. My cynicism says it will all be crap too.

So, here's how it SHOULD be done. Make a major mysterious announcement of what you plan to do, patent a lot of really obscure stuff, and then mine the speculation for truely good ideas, and DO THAT! Maybe then it won't be crap when the world sees what you've done.

(Of course, the bad thing, is that if you could tell a good idea when it bit you, you could have your own good ideas...)

It looks like Wiznet, my ISP is down. I can't pop my email, and I can't reach their web page. BUT my DSL link through them is still up and functioning, or else I couldn't post this. WTF?

Hmm. The technical help line just gets a busy signal, so I imagine that everyone and their dog is phoneing to ask whats up. Now, I wonder if there's any info on the website of the folks that bought them out... What where they called again?

Well, I just called Tech support at Magma.ca, but (despite what it said in the email I got from them a few weeks ago) they don't know anything about wiznet, and don't even have a number to phone to find out.

In the meantime I've redirected all my mail to my own pop account, so I'll get any mail sent to me now, although I will also have to wade through spam because my spam filter is dead and I never bothered to fix it. *Sigh*

I stole the idea for twinkie sushi from a FOAF. Really. I am not sick enough to go searching for this on my own.
