I have occasionally said that creative people live to create. The question is not motivating them, but in removing obstacles from their paths; or, to (badly) paraphrase Plutarch, motivation is not a gift to be bestown, but a fire to be lit. When you read this article about how a ex-employee kept sneaking back to Apple for months after he was fired, determined to finish his project, the thing to remember is that he was unique only in his willingness to surmount the obstacles placed in his way, and his ability to survive without pay. His enthusiams for his work I have seen in many others over the years.

I got a very nice card from [livejournal.com profile] skjalm today, along with a hand-made heart-shaped Danish candy basket. There were also supposed to be a set of munchkin cards inside, but the envelope had been opened somewhere along the way, and the cards were stolen. Grumph. At least they left me the rules.

[livejournal.com profile] taxlady, by the way, absolutely loved the candy basket thing. She makes them for the holidays, and even has a how-to up on her website, but this one was far nicer than the ones she makes. Now she wants the pattern or she'll be forced to disassemble the one we got to find out how it was made.

While I'm mentioning cards, I should also say that I've gotten one from [livejournal.com profile] _greyknight.

Oops! I almost forgot that I've gotten one from [livejournal.com profile] bohemianpsyche as well. It arrived a few days ago, while the party was still in the mad-planning stages.

Thanks to all of you for the cards!
