Frazzled.

Its been a long hard day and I'm only now getting a chance to unwind. Going car hunting and looking at the (not very good) selection of what we can buy with the insurance money did not do any good for my stress levels. We knew we were getting a real bargain with the last car, but its just now sinking in how much of a bargain it really was.

In other news I finally re-assembled the machine I want to turn into a server machine. All of its parts have checked out and are working. The dining table isn't quite clean yet, because I still need to put in the old disk from Linda's old machine. Its currently standing in as an emergency backup of itself... Once Linda has taken all of her important files, software licenses and the like off of the backup drive, and successfully backed up her machine to the backup drive, we'll be in a position to format the emergency backup and use it for other things.

So, all in all, I shouldn't complain about how today went, but note that I still reserve the right to gripe about it anyway!

I think I've listened to enough songs and played enough solitaire that I've managed to ease the tensions of the day. So, I think it would be wise to hit the sack before the sun rises.

I'm deliberately not going to plan my tomorrow in advance, since planning lately has been futile. Instead, I'll just try to face whatever challenges the day brings, and work on whatever task seems most amenable to progress.

So, I'll sign off now, as I've miles to snore before I wake.

Tah.

I dragged myself out of bed around 4:00 pm today. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately so I really slept in. And, of course, when that happens I wake up with a migraine. Normally the cure for that is 2 x ACC + 2 x Cafe-au-Lait, but our espresso machine is not working (we think its just clogged, but no one has had the chance to look at it lately).

So, the loverly [livejournal.com profile] taxlady took a few minutes off from her busy schedule (tax season is roaring into full swing) to make me some extra strong coffee, while I sat on the couch and whimpered.

Its worked and my headache is now just an annoying ache, not a skull spitting monster.

On the news side I got some bad and some much worse news this 'morning'.

  1. Our attempts to get more money for our car appears to have failed, so we're gonna have to go with what the Insurance company is offering.
  2. My Uncle Alex was found dead at his computer this morning. Cause of death is still unknown.

The first I was rather expecting. The second came as a bit of a surprise. I know my mother is bound to be upset by this but I never really knew Alex, so it's not as big a blow to me. I always confuse him with my Uncle Nick, and I'm sure I couldn't tell them apart in a photograph. With the exception of my Uncle Steve, I think I've only ever met each of my Mother's brothers once or twice and the last time was well over 20 years ago. I suppose I'll be learning more as my mom finds out.

I suppose I should just take it all as more evidence that if your worst problems are money related then you're doing pretty damn good.
