Morning!

So, its morning and I'm awake, and so is [livejournal.com profile] taxlady. We seem to have synched up somehow!

Not much to report. Yesterday we went shopping, and once more bought parts for the sink, (o-rings, actually) and once more discovered they weren't quite right. The problem is that I need o-rings with a very specific (and unknown) thickness because they have to fit between two parts snugly enough to prevent water getting by, but loosely enough that the parts can rotate with respect to each other. If I get o-rings that are too thick, they die within a week, and if they're too thin, the sink leaks. Anyway, each purchase is only costing somewhere around 59 cents, but this could add up if I keep buying different rings that don't quite work...

I was just reading this, and thought it worth a link.

This is a test of our server serving images. And, no, that's not one of our cats.

Well, that last test seems to have worked well. It looks like most people fetched the image without difficulty. Here's another one, but behind an LJ cut this time

So, the day's mostly over, and its beginning to look like we AREN'T going shopping for plumbing stuff as I planned, cause [livejournal.com profile] taxlady is plumb passed out on the couch.

Meanwhile, I've been fardling around with the server (as you may have guessed from previous posts), and installed PHP. I did that because I applied for a PHP coding job today. The pay is good, and you work from home. I don't actually know PHP, mind you, but from looking at it it seems to be a cross between perl and C++. I figure I can have a basic understanding of it in a day or two. That is, IF they call me back. I'm waaay overqualified for a scripting job so they might not bother. I also applied for a job in 3D graphics R&D at a local games company. Thats a job I've held before, but they might hold my lack of current experience (or my part ownership of Strategy First) against me. We'll see if they call.

Finally, I discoverd The Queen of Wands which I'm enjoying reading the archive to.

So, I feel like I've got a bunch done, but I was hoping to have actually gotten some Apache rewriting rules written by now, and some preliminary layout for the website...

So, here's the main reason we don't own a webcam -- Its just too dangerous.

Windows XP.

So, I accidentally deleted an important driver file a week or so ago. I didn't think much of it, since I was trying to uninstall the service it was a part of anyway. Today, for the first time, I started seeing weird glitches in Windows behaviour. Then again, I spent much of yesterday installing and uninstalling strange beta 3d software without rebooting, so I thought it was just that. Well, when I rebooted I got a message informing me that the file I thought deleted was trying to corrupt my hard drive upon boot. I was presented with the option of rolling my kernel stack back to the last known working checkpoint, so I did that. Now everything is working fine again. Makes me think that in THIS version of Windows, at least, they may have got something right...
