So, today got off to an inauspicous start. My sweetie
taxdragon woke me at 1:00 pm asking when I was planning to get up. A friend had called about going to see RoTK, and she didn't know if I would up for it. Anyway, I eventually stumbled downstairs to get some coffee, only to discover that there wasn't any. Not only had my SO awoken me without coffee, but there was no ground coffee in the jar for making more. I eventually found an unopened package, and made myself some coffee. While all this was going on, my sweetie was asleep on the couch, where she is still...
Then there was the ACDSee 6.0 Fiasco. ACDSee 5.0 is a very nice image sorting, viewing and cataloging program which I rather like. I'm also rather taken by the fact that its design is reminiscent of (while missing some major features) of a Windows/Linux tool that
_sps_ and I designed a number of years ago called XTFH or WTFH (depending on whether is the Linux or Windows variant). Anyway, since I upgraded to XP, I've been needing to reinstall ACDSee, and since I saw a new version was out, I downloaded and installed it. To put it simply, it sucks. Big Time. The user interface is now way more complicated, and doesn't work. Half of the features I use are now unreliable or broken, its image rendering is less that 1/4 the speed it was before, and it crashes when scanning some of my subdirs. In essence, they made it much, much slower while breaking most of the features that worked and leaving alone all of the featues that needed work. Argh!!! So, now I'm going to uninstall it, dig out my old V5.0 disks and reinstall THAT. Meanwhile I'm thinking that maybe I should seriously consider writing WTFH after all...

I just wanted to say HI! to
vinosister, a friend that I only ever seem to see while drinking deeply on Christmas eve. Up till now I wasn't entirely sure she wasn't a booze-induced hallucination...
