Have I mentioned here lately that
taxlady is the bestestestest? Well, she is! I have a reputation amongst my friends of being remarkably even tempered, but my sweetie gets to see me all the time, and can attest that I am not always the easiest to live with. Yesterday, I was a real Grump.
My yesterday actually started very well, and I was feeling very optimistic (which was the seed of my downfall). I had had such luck on things computational that I decided to tackle a number of minor jobs around the house that have needed doing for some time. ("some time" meaning, in at least one case, "since before I was married in 1997"). Well, I won't go into details, but nothing I tried to do worked out as planned. I started out with partial successes, and managed to move on to not being able to get started and then to dismal failures. Then I tried to go and cheer myself up by playing Lego, and I discovered I couldn't even do THAT right. By the time
taxlady woke up, I had returned to the dismal failure and was well on the way to turning it into a major disaster.
By this time my patience was gone, and I was randomly swearing at whatever got in my way. My SO correctly deduced that my main problem was I was trying to work with worn-out and wrongly-sized parts, and took me to the hardware store. There we managed to find the right parts and even got me a strap-wrench so I could twist the new parts tightly into place without the nasty damage that one knows the teeth of a vice-grip can do to ones plumbing. So, the new parts are now installed and seem to be working correctly (movement is a bit tight, and there is some minor leaking, but we think that will clear itself up as things wear into place).
This resulted in a much-less frustrated me. She then made me supper, let me have the last of the trifle for dessert, and varathaned my boots for me. So, in the end I finished my day on a very positive note, and went to bed happy. Had it not been for my SO, who knows what kind of swearing would have made it into my Journal by day's end?
And on that note, I've now finished the second big mug of coffee, and have performed the days ablutions, so I think its time I got dressed and tried to tackle some other minor jobs around the house that need doing...
