Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I went to a Garden Party hosted by [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova and [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, although there was actually very little time during the party when they were both present. When we arrived [livejournal.com profile] miseri, [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus and [livejournal.com profile] andysoft were already there. Of these [livejournal.com profile] miseri was the only one that I'd met before.

Shortly after our arrival [livejournal.com profile] andysoft and [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya headed out to buy some last-minute party goodies, as did [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus a few minutes later.

This left just me, [livejournal.com profile] taxlady, [livejournal.com profile] misuri and [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova, so we played a game of Apples to Apples (which I easily won -- it sure is nice that there is a game I'm actuall good at).
While we were playing [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus returned and we were thinking of playing another round with him included, but then [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya and [livejournal.com profile] andysoft returned as well, and several people proclaimed famishitude, so nibblies were prepared and put on the table.

During the long interval of eating, drinking and talking that ensued [livejournal.com profile] joenotcharles and a (*horrors*) non-lj friend of Denzo arrived, who was introduced as 'Sam'. Eventually, even [livejournal.com profile] ryestar arrived, who had up till this time made his presence known only as a disembodied voice on the phone, contacting us from seeminly random points on the globe.

After another hour or two of talk, [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus, [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova and [livejournal.com profile] ryestar left on a quest to find [livejournal.com profile] ryestar's hotel, and it was deemed the other two would be needed guide him there and back again.

Not so long after that, [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya pointed out that this was a garden party, and shouldn't we at least spend SOME time in the garden? So we all headed out into the garden with more food, which we ate with gusto. The gusto was starting to run low when I noticed first [livejournal.com profile] enaira and then [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ and finally [livejournal.com profile] kalkuly arriving. I never did notice when Francois arrived, but he was apparantly an ex-co-worker of [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, and possibly [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ and [livejournal.com profile] enira as well, and I have memories of him being in the garden, so I'm mentioning him now.

The garden was nice and warm while the sun was shining, but it was somewhat cold and windy when it wasn't. After a bit of sun then no-sun then sun, [livejournal.com profile] taxlady noticed that the top of my head was getting a bit pink and that I should put a hat on (which I had neglected to bring). So, I borrowed a floppy hat from [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, to the amusement of all. For the rest of the evening folks would often point at me and snicker. It was enough to give one a complex. Worse, [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ insisted on getting it all on film, which will undoubtedly show up on his journal at some point.

After a bit the repeated hiding of the sun by the clouds, and the resulting cold and wind caused folks to declare the garden part finished with, and we all headed back inside. Shortly thereafter [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova, [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus and [livejournal.com profile] ryestar returned. Some time after that, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] azrhey showed up in a traditional tree-climbing dress and [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus declared it was time to share in the cheesecake he had made. I'm not a fan of cheesecake, but it was quite good, despite a somewhat overdone crust. However [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus seemed bitterly disappointed that he hadn't managed to make a perfect cake in [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya's somewhat under-equipped and unfamiliar kitchen. Still, it was evident to most of us that the man seriously knows how to bake.

By this time those who were inclined to drink had had ample opportunity to do so, and some somewhat tipsy antics ensued, which I fear did not get adequately captured on film. Since I have no proof of the things I witnessed, I think it best I keep silent for now.

Now, an ongoing theme of the garden party was an attempt to produce the perfect smoked salmon on an outdoor smoker that had been set up. The first attempt was ready during the garden party but was declared to be merely 'Okay'. (I don't like freshwater fish, so this is all second hand.) Even though it was now past 6:00, more salmon was procured and [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya, [livejournal.com profile] ryestar, and others (I lost track) spent the next several hours out in the garden trying again with another batch. It was ready not long before the party ended, but folks proclaimed it to be 'perfect'.

Sometime after it got dark [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova and some others headed off on a beer run, and didn't return until close to 11:00 pm, when [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I decided it was getting time to head home. After lots of hugs and warm wishes were spread around, we headed off home. All in all, I had a great time and [livejournal.com profile] taxlady tells me she did too.

Actually it's [livejournal.com profile] miseri, not misuri. There's no site for the latter name.

Ditto on the spelling of [livejournal.com profile] miseri's username.

Thanks for being a sport and wearing the cutesy, flowery hat to make me happy when you could have stuck with the baseball cap.

Glad you had a good time... maybe I'll be here more next time?
