My day started when my alarm went off at 1:45 first thing this afternoon. I was still hunting for the OFF switch on the dang thing when
taxlady, came into the room to let me know that the folks that I had sent a resume to last night had phoned me 10 minutes earlier. She said that she'd told them I wasn't available at the moment, but that I should be in about an hour.
So, I poured coffee into me and tried to get my mind on track, by finding out what I could about these folks. The e-mail that I had originally got from them had been in response to resume on monster.com that I had posted months earlier, and all they said was that they were looking for someone with sattelite comm experience to work with the Canadian Space Agency. I couldn't tell from it whether I had the skills they wanted or not, so I just said I would consider a job offer if they thought I was qualified, and attached my updated resume. It turns out they are a small software development and consulting firm that mainly works on government contracts, and that they are indeed doing R&D work for the CSA. Anyway, by the time I had figured out who they were, and where they were, and what they did, the hour was long up, and I still hadn't gotten a call.
At 5:00 pm I timed out on them and resumed my original plan of visitng the
denizsarikaya and helping her to setup a LEAF firewall. We went at it like two rabid baboons and, in retrospect, that was our big mistake. We should have approached it as a pair of highly-intelligent and well-trained computer professionals. *shrug* Go Figure. Anyway, it was ALMOST working by 2:00 am, but our brains were getting chewy, and
nancyrihakova was having DTs from going internet cold turkey, so we called it a night.
I got home around 3:00 am, and have spent the last hour and a half getting me a snack, reading through my email and LJ, and posting this.
Now I'm all done for tonight. I will try to get up by noon, in case those folks phone again and want to talk to me. I also have a bunch of computer maintenance related stuff to do, as well as a small side project that should keep me entertained for a few days. But that's for later. Next on the agenda is my bed.
