Stuff I done done.
May. 14th, 2004 03:41 amSo I did some stuff today.
Mainly I did a bunch of CD burning and clearing cruft off of my backup drive, which has been doing second-fiddle as the only place where I have the room to uncompress and recompress full movies. This has allowed me to start recompressing movies so they fit onto CD's, which means that I can then delete them from my drives.
I've also been using it as a marshalling yard for collecting episodes of shows I want to burn, so that I don't have to make any VCD's until I've managed to find and download all the episodes I want. This makes for efficient storage onto CD's but takes up backup storage.
The upshot of all of this is that now that
taxlady has started using her share of the backup space on the disk, I found I no longer have enough free space on the thing to do a full backup. So, I haven't been doing them. This has had me rather nervous, as I LIKE to make regular monthly backups, and if I had a catastrophic disk failure today I would lose a huge amount of organization. (I wouldn't lose too many actual files, since many of them exist on backup CD's, but I would lose a few crucial ones, and a whole heck of a lot of renaming, reorganization and reordering I did when I finally got a large enough hard drive 2 years ago to store all of my CD's contents).
Anyway, I'm most of the way towards having enough space again, finally, but it means I didn't exactly get a lot of OTHER stuff done today. Although I did copy all of the websites I'm hosting off of this machine onto the new machine. With any luck, by the end of tomorrow I might even be able to serve them from that machine, rather than from this one. Wouldn't that be nifty?
Oh, it also means I have between 2 and 3 hours of Tripping The Rift on VCD. I think a mini marathon at the
denizsarikaya's place is called for.
