_sps_ came over on Friday, and we spent yesterday evening and all of today configuring unfamiliar linux programs on the firewall. Just after he left I finally got the dang thing to provide a non-authoritive caching DNS service to both of my local physical segments. Yay me!
So, now 'all' that left to do on the firewall is:
_sps_ had to take the bus home because we have car troubles. It will start, but it won't roll.
taxlady thinks one of the brakes has seized. Its probably fixable, and cheaply so, but meanwhile its a major hassle.
So, now 'all' that left to do on the firewall is:
- Configure the internal DNS as a private authoritive server,
- Figure out how to get Samba up and running,
- Install and configure Squid,
- Put in the VPN tunnelling support,
- Punch holes in the firewall for any particular services that the web server is going to need. This includes, but is likely not limited to NTP, SMTP, SFTP, SSH, HTTP and SSL
