swestrupToday was a pretty good day even considering a loss of an hour to DST gnomes:

_sps_ was visiting (he should be on a bus heading home at this very moment), and he had some really good ideas about possible money-making websites. For our top idea we got, in the best business-plan tradition of multiplying lots of little numbers by a real big number to get a reasonably large number, something like:
And that's per month, and based on some really pessimistic figures about the number of interested visitors to the website and to what degree they may elect to participate. It would be possible to refine the model a whole lot, but considering that it would only take about a week to build the website (3 weeks tops), its easier to just try it.
This is one of those schemes that doesn't even need good artwork (although it won't hurt), and could conceivably scale up two orders of magnitude from the initial conditions above. That would equate to over $500,000 profit per month!
I'm finding it increasingly hard to believe that no one has thought of this before. Then again, if it takes off at all like I think it might, we will have huge amounts of competition very rapidly. After all, its only a weeks work to enter the field right now.
So, suddenly I'm feeling very good an upbeat!
