This is a piece of etymology that I have never understood. My instincts tell me that the word you want should be ‘plinthol’, from plinth (the slab beneath a statue or column) + -ol (an alcohol). Where does the extra -oh- come from? Is it Christmas already?

It'll do that to you. I've been meaning to get off my butt to write a review of the Painful Taste Asian Fusion Restaurant, where we recently had some small bits of chicken packed into a critical mass of chopped red peppers and imploded at the table. It turns out that it's (marginally) survivable; the key trick is to immerse yourself in a tub of yoghurt. Wei, however, is still looking for her face.
