I generally hate reality TV. So, why am I such a fan of Total Drama Island? Yes its a spoof, but its so similar to what its spoofing that I have to wonder.

Its true that I'm also a huge fan of Iron Chef America which is, in some sense, also a reality TV show, but there I can easily explain it. Its all about people who are tops in their fields competing to see who can perform best under trying circumstances. And its about food.

Iron Chef is a fun show. That is one of the ones I miss not having (we don't have cable). When I have cable I tend to watch reality medical type shows on TLC, or animal shows. I'm such a biology nerd.

Iron Chef America is well worth it, even if:

a) they repeat episodes quite often

and

b) the Iron Chefs win more than seems appropriate given the efforts that have been presented.

Well as to B) I've been watching carefully and I generally agree with the Judges. The Iron Chefs do win a disproportionate amount of the time, but I think they're genuinely better than most competitors. (Of course, they have the advantage that they do this all the time; for the competitors is often a once only sort of thing.)

I've been looking forwards to this upcoming (US) Thanksgiving Day special where they pit all of the Iron Chefs against each other in a Turkey Death Match! (Okay, maybe not a Turkey Death Match exactly, but it still sounds like it will be worth watching.)

I guess I'll just have to find somewhere to download the episode from when I'm back in Montreal, as I won't get to see it otherwise.

Ahh but that is where you are mistaken my death match loving friend. I have the "Food" network and no doubt it will show said Turkey cook-off. Give me a call and if you can give me a heads up on the exact date and time and if I can rub two brain cells together to create a mental note, I will record the show.

Well, its going to air here on the Food Network on November 16th at 8:30, which is 11:30 pm Montreal time.

Its a 90 minute special.

I've never seen Iron Chef, but Total Drama Island is one of Deanne's favorite shows, and I have to say it's fairly entertaining.
