Early to Rise and Early to Bed,
Makes you Lumpy, Grumpy, and Dead.

I'm up an hour early today so as to be able to do the 9-5 thing, rather than the 10-6 thing.

There's two reasons for that. The first is that leaving by 5:00pm will give me the time needed to get to my NaNoWriMo meetup, and the second is that it will (in theory) make it easier tomorrow to do the 8-4 thing.

Why am I getting to work tomorrow by 8:00 am? Because the powers-that-be want me in the office on Wednesday by 6:30 am, and that's such a ludicrously large shift in my schedule that I don't want to do it all at once. Now, if I was an employee, I might have decided to go the route suggested by the office boss and either stay up all night, or have an extra short sleep, arrive at the office for the all-important meeting, and then go home to sleep when it was over.

But, because I'm a contractor, not an employee, doing so would not only disrupt my sleep schedule, it would deprive me of most of a day's wages. So, my plan is to go in to work from 6:30 to 2:30 on Wednesday, putting in a full 8 billable hours. Then I will go home and can crash for an extra-long sleep.

I haven't yet decided what hour I'll be at the office on Thursdays. I've been finding that a lot of the stores and businesses around here close at 6:00 pm, so it might actually add some convenience to my life to start doing 9-5 hours rather than 10-6. The downside to that plan is that most of the office actually works 11-7, so I'd be getting in 2 hours before everyone else. That might be good, or bad, I dunno. Anyway, I'll see how well going in early works this week, before making any plans to permanently change my schedule.
