Bad News on the Doorstep.
Oct. 5th, 2008 11:11 am*sigh* I was afraid something like this might happen. I just got the news that Intel has decided, due to the economic situation in the US, to put a bunch of cost-cutting measures into place. The main upshot is that the position that I was hired to fill has been eliminated.
They haven't fired me. Instead they are moving me laterally into the position that I've been fighting to stay out of for the last two weeks. So, one of the projects I've been working on is moving with me, and I'll be finishing it up, but it was almost done anyway. The second (and far more interesting project) has been eliminated. After that I'll be working on stuff that I was hoping to be able to avoid dealing with, in the kind of position that I had turned down in Montreal before coming here.
So, once more I find that I was hired to do R&D only to find out in the end that I shall be doing neither. I am really not happy about this.
