Bad News on the Doorstep.

*sigh* I was afraid something like this might happen. I just got the news that Intel has decided, due to the economic situation in the US, to put a bunch of cost-cutting measures into place. The main upshot is that the position that I was hired to fill has been eliminated.

They haven't fired me. Instead they are moving me laterally into the position that I've been fighting to stay out of for the last two weeks. So, one of the projects I've been working on is moving with me, and I'll be finishing it up, but it was almost done anyway. The second (and far more interesting project) has been eliminated. After that I'll be working on stuff that I was hoping to be able to avoid dealing with, in the kind of position that I had turned down in Montreal before coming here.

So, once more I find that I was hired to do R&D only to find out in the end that I shall be doing neither. I am really not happy about this.

Oh, no, that stinks. I've been really worried about my clients who are here from Japan, especially the one who is here with his whole family, but their companies have been doing OK so far. :/

Damn. That IS bad news. It does indeed stink that you find yourself in the very position that you have spent considerable time, effort and money trying to avoid.
