I can't find my passport. I have no idea where its got to. It should be in the safe, with all the other important papers, but its not. I will absolutely need it to enter the States in a week. I'm still hopeful that I'll find it. I'm sure I had it here after my last trip abroad, so its not like it could have gotten far. That's not saying it'll be easy to find though.

So, has anyone here ever had to get a rush replacement passport?  :-/ How much hassle was it?

3 years ago, it was 10 days and hum... 20$ extra? Not sure I remember well the exact amount of the surcharge.

According to this page, you can get "urgent" service within 24 hours for an extra $70.

Or 2-9 working-day service for an extra $30 instead. Depends how crunched you are.

That's in addition to the normal fee of $87 or whatever.

The "urgent" service - as described above - sounds like the right choice, given what is hanging in the balance.

Simply put, this is a case of "just do it".

I just went to get the Teenager's passport last week and, seriously, I was in the office for FIFTEEN minutes! That's it. I went at about 11 a.m.

You have to go to main office downtown, and you must bring proof of travel. They can get it to you either super-rush (24 hours) or within two or three days (I don't remember this one clearly). It's a few bucks extra, but totally, totally worth it.

Really, really, don't forget to bring the proof of travel. Although I got a rush passport last year without having my plane ticket, I wasn't able to get the Teen's passport rushed without proof (because, you know, I don't have a reservation to drive across the border, and it's not necessary to have a passport for that anyway).

Well, I know where my passport is, but I can't find my birth certificate and SIN card - because I obviously put them somewhere for safe keeping. So, maybe your passport and my docs are living it up in another dimension.

BTW, yowza for the sudden changes in your life.
Impressed hugs,
H.

Done both the 10-day and the 24-hour rush to get the passport.
Neither is any more hassle than getting a passport in the first place. :)
There is an extra step to replace a *missing* passport however -- and that's to report it to Passport Canada and the police. The Canadian passport website has more information here. Best bet -- contact passport Canada by phone and ask for their advice.
