With three heavy Internet users in the house at the moment, one shouldn't be surprised when access seems to slow down on occasion. Lately its been happening far more than that. Very often these days just going to a simple webcomic page is very sluggish. And then you have mornings like right now, when with no change to what we are doing, everything just zooms.
So, I'm beginning to think that the problem is at Primus, our ISP. Have they oversubscribed their lines? Have they put us on a DSLAM with too many other users? Of course, there's no way to find out. Its not as if you could call up your ISP and ask and expect to get a coherent answer. Heck, most of the time you won't even manage to get through to someone who knows what a DSLAM is.
Meanwhile Bell is a convenient scapegoat. I know they're doing throttling, but the kind they do doesn't induce latency whereas what I see when things are congested is a LOT of latency. Ah well, the joys of living in the digital age.
