Biscuits and Gravy
Jun. 5th, 2008 09:55 amIts time for breakfast. I went to bed last night with a wicked craving for potato chips, and when I asked my body this morning what it wanted for breakfast it immediately answered 'Potato Chips'.
When I asked for a second choice, it sulked and came up with 'Biscuits and Gravy'. This is strange and appauling in that

- I've never had Biscuits and Gravy, so how is my body craving them?
- I'm probably at least 1000 miles from the nearest place that serves them.
- I'm not even sure this is a breakfast dish. I'm not that up on southern American cuisine.

Date: 2008-06-05 01:57 pm (UTC)I can attest from eating at a Hampton Inn breakfast buffet last year, that Biscuits and Gravy ARE indeed served for breakfast.

Now you've got ME craving biscuits and gravy damn you!

Thick gloppy white paste should never be called gravy.

Date: 2008-06-05 05:02 pm (UTC)I have had cravings for food that I do know. One example for me is chocolate cake. Every now and again I get a craving for it. Not chocolate chip cookies, not chocolate cream pie, not even a bar of chocolate would do. Only chocolate cake. In the past, I almost sulked when I realized I was not going to be able to satisfy that desire. I wanted the texture of the cake in the mouth as the flavours excite my taste buds. The pleasure was all in the mouth and not in the digestion of the stimulants and other goodies, at least not consciously.
What I can say about such cravings is this: The reality almost never lives up to the fantasy induced by the craving and if it does, it's usually satisfied after two or three bites.
