Last Sunday I attended a going-away supper for
foi_nefaste. That day I consumed more sugar and carbohydrates than I'm supposed to get in four days, and it was only the latest binge of several that week.
In order to balance that out, and to get my scale happy with me again, I've been sticking strictly to my low-carb diet for the last week. The big problem is that I've been getting enormous carb cravings ever since. As the sugar in my blood gets reduced to levels more in keeping with what my ancestors would have experienced, my fat cells have started crying out MORE.
As a result I've been getting these incredible hunger attacks where I feel okay one second and the next I am absolutely starving. These can even happen at times like right now, when I've just eaten a large meal and I would have a hard time fitting any more food into me. The thing is, what I just ate was heavy on meat and vegetables and contained very few carbs, so the craving is still there.
Its strange but the first time I went through the whole induction-phase of Atkins, I never got cravings anything like these and most of the time on the diet I don't get them. Its only lately when I've let the diet slip and have to go back on a more rigorous regimen that they hit for the first week or so. I have to remind myself from now on that these dang cravings are one of the costs of eating that cheesecake that's winking at me...
