So, here's an invention I'd like to see, but I don't think I'll be posting in the technaut blog: A Sleep Comression engine. If I could get just 50% compression on my sleep then the 4 hours I just had would have been adequate...

Ah well, I must awake because there are many many things I plan to do today.

That'd be great. Make sure to also make it go the other way into a Sleep Expansion Engine, so when I accidentally sleep 12+ hours it'll feel more like 9 or 10 and I won't feel so useless all day.

Yeah, I know! swestrup's reply was that a generic time machine to speed everything up would be the general solution. He said it would be nice to be able to put a roast in an oven, set the timer for the hours required and then take out the cooked roast a couple of seconds later. I don't suppose, however, that anyone is going to invent a magic electromagnetic gizmo to do either, anytime soon.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration? Pull the other one... they are there to punish the incompetent, and/or uncontrolled, drug industry. Given the volume of 'illegal' drugs that make it into the U.S., the DEA role is simply a publicity stunt.

As for drugs for the warfighter, take a look at what that American pilot who bombed the Canadian soldiers was taking to keep awake - strong amphetamines. Get caught with that on the street, and expect to be good friends with Bubba for a couple years....

So, yes, two rules - one for the population, one for the government...
