I spent the day working on the Anticipation 2009 website backend again. I've only got one more module to install, and I thought it would be easy because the documentation looked pretty good, and it has all the features I need. Well, it wasn't easy to install, and I've discovered that it relies on the installation of a bunch of other modules that are mentioned nowhere in the documentation. Even when they were tracked down and installed, I found out it made unwarranted assumptions about the layout of the website. So, I went in to fix the offending lines of code.
Mein Gott but its a horrible morass of ugly spaghetti. I found the bits I needed to tweak, and I got the code semi-working, but this is going to be a MUCH bigger job to configure (read: completely rescript) than I had hoped. I hate it when amateurs write code.
So, I decided to try to finish Thief 3, but the final mission is so full of bugs that its not possible to restore from any save points within the mission. So, you have to get everything exactly right on the first try. There are sections of the level that I am getting VERY bored with. I hate it when amateurs write games. To be sure, Thief 1 and Thief 2 had bugs, but they were minor.
And so, now I think I'm reduced to just reading my backlog of mailing list news and having a beer, since all other lines of endeavor seem to lead to much larger quantities of frustration than I can deal with right now.
