Interpretation.
Jun. 4th, 2007 09:34 amLife comes without an instruction book, and often, like a bad mime show, you can be left watching events unfold and trying vainly to figure out what its supposed to mean. Often the only meaning comes from your own interpretation of events. I always try, when there is ambiguity and doubt (and there always is), to deliberately devise the best possible interpretation for events. I may be wrong, but I end up feeling better.
Its not always easy, especially when my ego is feeling bruised. Sometimes though, something happens to reinforce that this is a good plan. Like, for instance, suddenly and inexplicably receiving an invitation 6 weeks late for an event you thought you had been deliberately excluded from (and couldn't have attended anyway). The sequence of events is unchanged and had that email arrived in a timely manner, nothing would have changed other than my attitude towards the event in question and the people behind it.
Strangely, this brings me back to thoughts of
azrhey (like so many things do these days as our reunion grows closer). There is very little to interpret with this lady for she is always quick to let you know where you stand with her. Its very refreshing to know that if you screw up and do something she doesn't like, you will hear about it promptly. That means that all of the times you do something that you belatedly realize may be interpreted badly, you can rest assured that if you don't hear back about it shortly, then no harm was done. This is but one of the many things I love about her.
