There's a little village called Contoocook off the I89 in New Hampshire. Just past Hopkinton and not far from Concord. It consists of a cluster of streets around the intersection of the 103 and another highway. At this little intersection there is a covered bridge that the trains used to use to cross the river, and a converted train station that now houses some stores. We stopped for coffee in this quaint little village, as we were driving home from Boston, mainly because the map indicated it would be hard to get lost there. Take almost any of the roads out of town and we'd end up back on the I89.

There are a half-dozen little restaurants scattered around the intersection and I'm sad to say I never caught the name of the one we stopped at, other than it said 'Cafe' on it. It was a tiny place that was only open till 1:00 or 2:00 pm in the afternoon, but it was clearly a well-patronized spot. There was a cup rack where the locals each had their own coffee mug with their hand-painted name on it.

We each ordered a sirloin-tip wrap and coffee. The food was unbelievable. They had marinated the steak in something delicious and served the wrap with home made potato chips. YUM. Then we decided to have pie for desert, because the place seemed to specialize in pies. The menu listed over a dozen varieties.

I had the boston cream pie, because I had never had one before and I figured we were still close enough to Boston that it was likely to be authentic. According to [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and our waitress it was the genuine article. All I know was it was delicious. [livejournal.com profile] taxlady had the apple pie and it was extremely good as well. (I had to steal a few bites, being the apple pie afficionado that I am).

We then went for a short walk and took some photos of the covered bridge before getting back on the road. Its a shame we never took better note of the name of the place, because I would heartily recommend them to anyone driving down to Boston on the I89.

Tenses.

It seems that the 2 weeks I spent trying to get a passing familiarity with Danish has completely destroyed my ability to correctly construct tense structures in English. Bleah! Hopefully my gramatical abilities will return soon.
