Hi, here I am once more at the Internet cafe. So far things have been both kinda fun and really slow going here in Denmark. First I'll wave to Paul, *waves*, who I met in a pub and treated me (and [livejournal.com profile] taxlady) to an amazing and strange night out on the town. He's aparently found my LJ, so it seemed worth waving. I should also take a moment to point to my other journal at [livejournal.com profile] technaut if he hasn't already discovered it.

Secondly, I want to thank [livejournal.com profile] azrhey for the three thick books she lent me for the trip, and which I have now finished. I've been getting a lot of reading done because I've been spending a fair amount of time helping with [livejournal.com profile] taxlady's mother. Sometimes that involves pushing a wheelchair or carrying her walker for her, but other times it involves just sitting and watching the mother sleep while the other two head out to shop or something. Sometimes it just involves hiding in the spare room and reading while some kind of yelling match is going on because someone has set someone off. After all, these are all close family members I'm staying with and they all know each others buttons.

There is also an unbelievable amount of cleaning that has to be done. The mother hasn't thrown out a newspaper, bottle, candy wrapper or medicine container in close to 30 years. This little appartment has huge amounts of storage and its all crammed full of crap. I am now sympathising with [livejournal.com profile] talyesin who went through something similar recently. Only he didn't have the problem that the pack rat was still living in the house so that the garbage has to be sneaked out without them noticing or they'll have a fit.

I have also completely given up on Atkins for the trip. I wasn't going to try too hard, but its turned out to be impossible. A typical breakfast here is either a bunch of open-faced sandwiches or pastry. So, I've been eating a LOT of bread and a LOT of pastry. I'm actually finding that I'm beginning to miss my old diet.

So far, I've not actually gotten to leave the house too often on my own. We've made a number of day trips, but what with having to take care of the mother and follow along trying not to get lost, I haven't really had as much time to stop and smell the roses as I'd have liked.

That's about all I have to say for myself now, although I imagine I'll think of a bunch of stuff once I get home. Oh, I suppose I should point out to [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ that the obvious things to try to get the server back up have been tried, and have failed. So it will be down until either he or I get to my place to give it a swift kick.
