Hummingbirds and Evolution.

_sps_ sent me a pointer to this article on how hummingbirds fly. While interesting in its own right, the part that made it worth alerting me to, was the last paragraph:

"The one big caveat is that an engineer can start from scratch - biological evolution doesn't ever start anew. It's encumbered with the trappings of one's ancestry." -- Dr. Douglas Warrick, of Oregon State University.

It is surprising how few folks, even in the Biological sciences seem to understand how basic a principal that is to understanding and analyzing life on this world, or on another. Its actually very refreshing to find someone who has that clue.

I wanted to post a follow up to a post I made several months ago, only both the memories thingy (where I had it indexed) and the search feature both seem to be broken right now. So much for THAT plan!

I just came across a reference to PostSecret in talyesin's blog.

I'm not sure what I think of it. To quote a friend, its like looking at a train wreck.

Or so say the weatherpeoples. The thing is, I heard we had torrential rains, over 2 hours ago, and so far, still nothing over here on the West Island.

Has anyone else seen any rain?
