Thankless task?
Apr. 21st, 2005 10:35 amMy immediate boss just reluctantly gave me the "thankless task" of bringing our diagnostic and other textual output up to a newly-imposed standard of comprehensibility, localizability and meaningfulness. I'm actually looking forward to the job. It will take 2-3 weeks, I would assume, and has several benefits to me:
- Its very unlikely that I'll end up stuck in a crisis during the work on this. Yay for going home on time!
- I'll actually have an in-work excuse to read through all of the source code. Its stupid, but although I'm supposed to be familiar with the source code, this shop doesn't believe in ever devoting time to either training or learning anything. So, this gets me some needed studying, while being done on work time.
- By the time the job is finished, by 3-month internship will be over, and firing me suddenly requires cause. I'll feel much easier about complaining about working conditions and/or shopping around my resume after that.
