With extra Blargh! no less. Today was another day of trying to figure out what next needs to be be done to get our server up and running. I strongly suspect that ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
_sps_ is currently kicking himself because he took my advice and installed perl_OH_GHAWD_NO_DONT_INTALL_THIS.rpm
I thought it would be useful, but it ate the GUI on the system. Several hours of tinkering failed to restrore the GUI and probably broke a few other things. I, on the other hand, am just real glad that he did it, and not me, and that he had the foresight to install an if-all-else-fails plan when we started out. If we can't fix what's wrong, we have a spare partition in which to install a new copy of the OS, and we have all of our important data on a partition that won't need to be touched. Doing this will cost us a day, but that's about all. Considering I've had more than one problem stump me for multiple days so far, this seems no more than a minor inconvenience.
So, stupidly enough, I'm feeling really good about things. I think I had wandered off of the game plan, and this week I got firmly placed back on it. So, next I'm going to figure out how to get apache2 up and running on Mandrake. Provided we haven't broken anything it depends on (and so far I've seen no signs of that) I should have a working config within a couple of days.
