So, yesterday I managed to stay up until 6:00 pm and then I collapsed like -- Like a large sack full of sleep. Anyway, I finally woke up around 7:30 am this morning, just in time to race out to the curb with the garbage before the truck showed up. I had told [livejournal.com profile] taxlady the night before that I would probably only sleep till 4:00 or 5:00 am and so there would be plenty of time for me to take the garbage out when I got up.

Two cups of coffee and some hard-boiled eggs later, I'm starting to feel awake now.

You know, this has got to be the worst translated toy assembly instructions I've ever seen.

What follows below is quoted from the April 1996 issue of "FringeWare Daily", now long since defunct. It was submitted by Rob Wentworth (robwen@AT@skypoint.DOT.com):

Multi-national personnel at North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters near Paris found English to be an easy language ... until they tried to pronounce it.  To help them discard an array of accents, the verses below were devised.  After trying them, a Frenchman said he'd prefer six months at hard labor to reading six lines aloud.  Try them yourself.

So, I just sent a message to 30 or so of my friends, asking if they are willing to have me send them an invite code from LinkedIn. This is as close to spamming as I've ever come, and it took LOTS of nerve to hit the 'send' button.

This was made worse by the fact that I discovered that a bunch of folks that I read regularly on the extropians list were on Orkut, so I 'friended' them. I didn't realize that Orkut friend links were two-way and that each and every one of them would be asked to approve the creation of a friendship link. Just because I know and admire their writing doesn't mean they know me from Adam. What's worse, with at least one of these people I had a nasty online disagreement a few years ago. I'm firmly convinced it was all due to miscommunication, I but I have no idea if she feels the same way.

So far though, two people have accepted the links and no one has refused, so I'm not feeling too terrible.

By the way, if you don't get an invitation to get an invitation to LinkedIn, but wanted one, just let me know.
