Go Bush!

I've just returned from the monthly LJ meetup where many fine folks showed up and gabbed for hours on all topics under the sun. One of these topics was, of course, Bush and his proposed amendment. During the discussion it suddenly ocurred to me that this amendment, should it pass, would at least outlaw one pernicious group of religious fantatics and social misfits who've done so much damage worldwide that their banning should be universally accepted.

I am, of course, talking about Catholic Nuns. These weird ladies have one of the strangest marriage customs I have ever heard of, and one that is sure to be prevented by this new constitutional change. For those not in the know, Catholic Nuns dress up in wedding gowns and go through a ceremony where they are wedded to someone they call 'Jesus Christ'. This fellow is never physically seen to be present at the marriages, although the Nuns claim his spiritual presence alone is sufficient. Now, this is strange enough, but ALL of the Nuns in the world are apparantly married to this same guy! This is in blatant disregard for the laws against bigamy. What's more,  the simplest research on this 'Jesus' character shows that he died close to 2000 years ago!

So, we have this fanatical group of Necro-Bigamists who've taken it upon themselves to open schools and teach morality to our children. I say for once Bush has the right idea! Ban them all!

I awoke today, as sometimes happens, with a headache (as sometimes happens) and so asked [livejournal.com profile] taxlady to make me a Cafe au Lait while I tried to figure out how to make my eyes blink in unison. While engaged in this act, I was idly sitting in front of the TV and flipping chanels, only to come across an obvious CGI image of an aquatic slug visiting an undersea mound of kelp flowers.

To make a long story short, it turns out to be a new television series on speculative evolution(!!) based on the works of Dougal Dixon, the author of "After Man" and "Man After Man". These are both works worth owning (if you are me) although Mr. Dixon has certain flaws in his understanding of both biomechanics and applied genetics. That said, I plan to tape and watch as much of the series as I can get my hands on. When one is trying to write a book on Xenobiology, even semi-competant source materials are frustratingly rare.

There's lots of depression going around this time of year, but you CAN fight back. What you need are some new toys! Things like:

Get them while they last!
